Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30 Review & Matching Strollers

Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30 is the only car seat with air protect technology. In this review, we will look over safety features, installation guide and matching stroller systems. Maxi Cosi has been designing high-quality car seats, strollers, and travel systems for over 35 years.

Their belief that parents should be able to focus “more on where they’re going and less on how they get there” has provided families worldwide with the convenience, safety, and comfort they can rely on.

Unlike other manufacturers, Maxi Cosi tends to keep it simple, offering only three types of car seats – infant, convertible, and belt-positioning booster. Parents will also be relieved to find just a handful of choices within each category.

Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30 Review

The current line of Maxi Cosi infant car seats includes just one model, Mico.  There have been several versions of the Mico floating around, and the Mico Max 30 is one of the latest.  Note:  you can only use this car seat in one position, rear-facing, for babies up to 30 pounds.

The Mico Max 30 also comes in a variety of standard, neutral color palates, including blue, sand, gray, and black. It’s also offered in a variety of special edition colors for anyone who’s a bit more fashion-conscious.

  • Use as a rear-facing infant seat
  • Four standard, neutral color choices
  • Special editions offer more fabric variety

Safety Features

There are a few standard safety features included in the Mico Max 30 that parents are really going to love.  Both the patented Air-Protect technology (providing extended side-impact protection) and the anti-rebound bar (preventing extra motion) are designed to keep kids more secure in case of a crash.

This infant car seat also includes LATCH installation, and it comes with a low birth weight insert. A Cozi-Dozi head pillow is also included to support babies as small as four pounds securely. You’ll find that you can travel pretty much anywhere with the Maxi Cosi 30 too since it’s lightweight.  It’s also FAA approved for airplane travel, and installs easily, with or without the base, making it a great choice for families who use rideshare or trade cars often.

Plus, the installation manual is hidden right in the seat and clearly marked with a tag (for those of us who might misplace things now and again…).

  • Air-protect side impact protection
  • Anti-rebound bar
  • LATCH
  • Infant insert and pillow for tiny babies
  • FAA approved
  • Easy to install, even without the base
  • Instruction manual stored right in the seat

User-Friendly Features

In addition to safety, Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30 also offers parents some pretty impressive features.  A contoured handle makes getting around just a little bit easier and self-wicking fabrics keep kids dry and comfortable in case of a spill (or an accident).

Additionally, the fabric can also be removed quickly, washed, and dried. The Mico Max 30 even has an oversized canopy to keep kids out of the weather, and it’s compatible with a wide variety of strollers and travel systems too. No need to wake up the baby simply to take them out of the car.  Parent-win in my book!

Key User-Friendly Features

  • Contoured handle
  • Self-wicking fabric
  • Machine-washable cover
  • Oversized canopy
  • Compatible with several travel systems

Frustrations

Unfortunately, the Mico Max 30 also comes with its own set of parent complaints.  First off, you’ll need to rethread the harness as babies grow. Not a deal-breaker, but definitely annoying.

Luckily you won’t have to do this too often.  Parents have also complained that while the oversized canopy is great, it’s flimsy and droopy. It also has a pretty big footprint (when installed with the base) and won’t be a great choice for anyone with a compact or mid-sized car.

Also, remember that the Mico Max 30 is only a rear-facing infant seat.  You will need to transition to another child safety seat once your child reaches the weight and height restrictions allotted for this seat.

Key Frustrations

  • Rethread the harness as kids grow
  • Flimsy canopy
  • Large footprint
  • Rear-facing only

Compatible Strollers

One of the best things about the Mico Max 30 is that it’s compatible with over 50 different strollers.  That’s right, 50 strollers, making the Maxi Cosi Mico one of the most versatile infant seats on the market today.

Your stroller choices aren’t just limited to Maxi Cosi either. Anything from the Baby Jogger Select to the UPPAbaby MINU to the BabyZen Yoyo, and probably everything in between.

If you use any stroller brand (aside from Maxi Cosi), you will need to purchase a compatible adaptor to make sure your Mico fits right. This is a small price to pay to ensure you get the exact stroller you’ve been hoping for.

Maxi Cosi Stroller Line

If you plan to stick with the Maxi Cosi brand, you will happily find two compatible options – Adorra and Lila.

The Mico car seat adapter is included with the Adorra plus the peek-a-boo canopy window, adjustable handle height, and cup holder up top keep parents happy too.

And for those of us who like bundling… The Adorra 5-in-1 Modular Travel System gives us the chance to buy an Adorra stroller AND the Mico Max 30 car seat together in one, fell swoop.

Comparing and Contrasting Mico Max Versions

There are a couple of different Maxi Cosi Mico versions to choose from out there.  Thankfully, we can rest assured that any Mico seats we pick will be regularly crash tested to meet or exceed all recommended safety standards. Maxi Cosi also makes it a little easier on us, offering just a couple of different Mico models to compare.

Mico Max 30 vs. Mico 30

The Maxi Cosi Mico 30 is the original version of the Mico infant car seat.  This basic Mico version doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles that the newer Mico Max has.

It still, however, might be an excellent choice for some families.  Plus, it comes at a little lower of a price point! The similarities between these two models are pretty extensive – LATCH installation, Cozi-Dozi infant pillow, contoured carry handle, and machine-washable, self-wicking fabrics.

The main differences lie in some of the “extras.”  Most importantly, the Mico 30 is rated for babies weighing as little as five pounds. It’s important to note that the Mico Max 30 can support babies at four pounds.  You’ll still find extended side-impact protection in the Mico 30, but not the patented Air Protect technology. Additionally, you won’t find an anti-rebound bar on this model, and the canopy isn’t quite as large.

Similarities

  • Dedicated rear-facing seat
  • Compatible with over 50 strollers (with or without an adaptor)
  • LATCH
  • FAA approved
  • Easy to install, even without the base
  • Cozi Dozi infant pillow
  • Contoured handle
  • Self-wicking fabric
  • Machine-washable cover
  • Oversized canopy

Differences

  • Infant rated 5-30 pounds
  • Standard side-impact protection
  • No anti-rebound bar
  • Smaller canopy

Mico Max 30 vs. Mico Max Plus

As you might imagine, the Mico Max Plus also has a lot of similarities to the Mico Max 30. Both seats are suitable for babies as small as four pounds and include safety features such as Air Protect technology for extra side-impact protection.

You’ll find a Cozi-Dozi pillow, contoured handle, and self-wicking fabrics also in both models.  Max Plus is also going to be compatible with an array of strollers. This rear-facing seat does not include an anti-rebound bar, but it does offer just a little bit more (hence, the Plus).

Some of these extras include a three-position adjustable base and red to green level indicator to help with proper installation. Maxi Cosi also includes more padding in the Cozi Dozi and a comfy grip on the handle.  Finally, a full-coverage zip-out canopy extension and a full-body infant pillow will be found in the Mico Max Plus model.

Similarities

  • Dedicated rear-facing seat
  • Air Protect side impact protection
  • Compatible with over 50 strollers (with or without an adaptor)
  • LATCH
  • FAA approved
  • Easy to install, even without the base
  • Self-wicking fabric
