Weight & Height Limitations

The Magellan XP All-in-One Convertible Car Seat was built for your child to use from birth until age ten. It can fit children from 5-120 pounds. Your baby can start in a reclined position and gradually move to a seated child seat and from rear to front-facing.

Children can stay rear-facing up to 40 pounds before transitioning to one of three forward-facing modes for kids 22-110 pounds. The Magellan XP All-in-One has a hideaway harness that makes it easy to transition to belt-positioning booster seat mode. The booster features a full back to keep your child secure and safe.

This seat grows with your child, and they can use it for several years. It features seven different recline positions. Also, it has fourteen headrest heights that raise as you raise the harness.

Parents can purchase one seat and continue to adjust it as their child grows. It also features removable infant head pillows that come out easily. The seat has been designed to grow with your child’s comfort and safety needs. Babies can start backward-facing and reclined, and you can adjust as they grow.

Excellent Safety Features

Safety is a parent’s number one priority when buying a car seat. The Magellan XP 5-in-1 car seat takes that seriously and exceeds all federal safety standards. This seat features a patented Air Protect Side Impact system.

The AirProtect is also built into the infant head cushion to keep your baby comfortable and safe. It’s also got adjustable torso side impact protection. This is a great benefit as all children grow at different rates. You can adjust it and feel safe as your child grows, and their safety needs change.

EZ Zipper Install

Installing a car seat can be challenging. You’re fumbling around, trying to find the pieces under the seat and connect them blindly. The Magellan XP has an EZ Zipper install to make it simple. It features a zipper in the seat cushion that you can unzip to find the seat belt path and LATCH clip for installation. You can see the pieces rather than trying to blindly feel around for them. Then, you easily connect the belt to the LATCH clip to install quickly.

Easy In & Out

Getting your child out of the harness is tricky. You unbuckle it, only to have their arms get stuck back in the straps as you’re trying to pull them out. The Magellan XP has harness holders on each side of the seat.

When you unbuckle your child, you can use the harness holders to hold the belts back and quickly get them out of the seat.

What We Like

Easy to Clean

One of the hardest things about car seats is keeping them clean. You have to take them apart to wash them, and good luck putting them back together! The Magellan is easy to take apart and wash, and you don’t have to change or unthread the harness to do it. The EZ Zipper we mentioned above means cushions also come out easily to clean.

The seat is made of breathable fabric that fits well but is also easy to remove for cleaning. It features self-wicking fabric so that your child stays comfortable in warmer months. The material is excellent for the summer and helps keep your child from getting sweaty while strapped into the seat. Parents also rave about having easy-to-remove infant cushions that keep baby comfortable and softly nestled in.

Space for Drinks & Snacks

It sounds minor, but trust me- cupholders are really nice to have in a car seat. The Magellan XP seat has two cupholders, and the best part is that they can be removed quickly to clean. Any parent knows that having easily removable pieces to your seat is key so that you can clean up messes fast.

What We Don’t Like

Difficult in Large Cars

Some parents comment that the seat can be challenging to install in bigger cars. They report having a hard time with the LATCH installation. The strap may not easily reach all the way to the latch in the back of a large vehicle, which can make for a complicated install.

Lots of Bells and Whistles Can be Overwhelming

A few parents report that there is so much going on with this seat that it’s overwhelming. Having adjustments for safety and comfort is a nice feature, but there is a lot to adjust. Parents share that they installed the seat only to have to remove it to re-adjust for their child.

Maxi-Cosi Magellan XP vs. Magellan Max

The Magellan Max is another excellent option for a car seat. Magellan Max and Magellan XP have most of the same features with the addition of one significant upgrade. The Magellan Max features Maxi-Cosi’s EZ Out Harness System and ClipQuik.

The EZ Out harness system with spring assist keeps the straps and buckle from getting stuck and bunched up under your child.  ClipQuik’s auto-magnetic chest clip makes things easy. Parents can open it quickly with just one hand—making it easy for you but hard for your child to unbuckle. The magnets automatically slide together to self-lock when close, so you can get your child buckled and get on your way.

Both seats feature the same adjustments and safety additions. The major difference is the EZ Out harness which is an added bonus for parents.

The Maxi-Cosi Magellan XP All-in-One Convertible Car Seat is an excellent seat for your child. It eliminates the need to buy multiple seats as your baby grows. Parents overwhelmingly rave about the features of the seat that make it easy to use. It’s a great seat to make sure that your child is safe and comfortable all through childhood. The company has designed the Maxi-Cosi Magellan XP All-in-One Convertible Car Seat with all the essential features in mind, and it’s definitely a winner.
