Evenflo Tribute LX Review [Features & Ratings] 1Evenflo is one of my favorite brands so I can safely say that I was happy to test the Evenflo Tribute LX.

I liked this convertible car seat for many reasons. The main reason was that it’s under $100. This is the perfect solution for parents on a budget. However, with low prices come frustrations. Personally, I only got frustrated by the sharp edges and limited padding. However, it did what I needed it to and it passed all safety standards.

The LATCH system made it easy to install in my car. It was quick and painless. Once installed, I was able to adjust the 5-point harness easily to fit my child’s height. The cup holders and head pillow are removable for easy cleaning as well. If there was a spill, I took the cover and pads off and washed them in the washing machine.

Unfortunately when it comes time to adjust the harness, you have to rethread it, which means removing it from the vehicle and adjusting it from the back. Once they are threaded, loosening and tightening the straps are simple.

If you’re on a budget and need a quick fix, then I would recommend this car seat. It will do what it needs to do and nothing more. There are no fancy features, but it has great safety ratings and performed well.

Evenflo Tribute LX Basics

Use the Tribute LX in either a rear-facing or a forward-facing mode. It is compact and light, making it a perfect choice for families who have smaller vehicles, need to install multiple car seats across one row, use ride-share, or have to move the seat from car to car frequently.

You’ll also find the Tribute LX in a variety of color combinations, sure to match any family’s taste.

Tribute LX Safety Features

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids stay in a rear-facing position for as long as possible. To support these recommendations, Evenflo designed the Tribute LX to accommodate kids from five to 40 pounds in the rear-facing position, which could allow kids to ride backward well past their second birthday.

The Tribute LX is crash tested regularly and meets or exceeds all federal safety guidelines.  An energy-absorbing foam liner not only gives kiddos a little extra comfort while they’re riding around but also provides some added support in case of a crash.

Evenflo also boasts that their car seats are “designed and tested for structural integrity at energy levels approximately two times the federal crash test standard.”

The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system is also found on the Tribute LX making installation pretty painless, and the 5-point harness has four different height adjustments to accommodate kids as they grow.

You’ll also find four shoulder and two buckle positions in the Tribute LX, making it easier to find a good fit for kids as they grow. This convertible option also comes with a removable head pillow to help kids of all sizes get the proper head and neck support as they grow, as well as a removable cup holder to keep drinks, snacks, or toys within a toddler’s arms reach.

The Downfalls of Evenflo Tribute

All convertible car seats have one common downfall; they are not compatible with any stroller or travel system. This makes traveling with newborns and infants more challenging, especially when you need to wake them up to take them out of their car.

On the flip side, the Tribute LX is not the only car seat you’ll need to buy. Once your kiddos outgrow the forward-facing with a harness mode of the Tribute LX, you’ll need to invest in a booster seat until a regular car seat belt fits your child correctly.

Parents have also complained that the Tribute LX doesn’t have cloth guards around the harness straps.  Without the guards, irritation can happen around littlenecks, and you may want to purchase some separately.

The harness and LATCH straps can also be hard to tighten, so you’ll need some practice to get it right. Additionally, users have noted that there isn’t sufficient recline for smaller kids in the rear-facing position.

The Tribute LX also doesn’t have a bubble level to help with installation. There have also been complaints that there isn’t enough padding to keep kiddos comfy, especially on longer car rides, and there seem to be some pretty sharp sides and edges to watch out for.

Key Frustrations

  • Not compatible with any evenflo travel system.
  • Not an all-in-one option.
  • It does not come with harness guards.
  • The seat may not recline enough for small babies.
  • Limited padding.
  • Sharp sides and edges.

Expiration

Every child safety seat has an expiration date.  Parents must pay attention to this date to keep kids as safe as possible.

The Evenflo Tribute LX convertible car seat expires six years from the date of manufacture.  You can find the date of manufacture for your particular model on the label affixed to the car seat.

Warranty

Evenflo offers a 90-day Warranty on Tribute LX convertible car seats purchased through evenflo.com.  If you feel that your car seat has a manufacturer defect, make sure to contact Evenflo directly.
