2. Place the straps over your child’s shoulder. Using your two fingers (thumb and index), pinch both harness straps up where your child’s shoulders are. The pinch test is what it’s called. The seat belt straps are slack if you can feel some of the fabric in your fingertips. If, however, you can’t fit two fingers flat between your child’s body and the collarbone, the strap is too tight. 
3. Begin tugging on the shoulder and stomach straps. Continue tugging until you can fit your finger under the strap. 
4. Pinch the car seat strap to confirm that the strap is not too loose. Ensure there is a snug and there is no slack between your fingers.

How to loosen straps on a car seat varies depending on the model. A car seat consists of harness straps, lower anchor straps, buckle straps (crotch straps), top tether straps, and harness adjustment straps.

Routing The Straps Incorrectly

The locking mechanisms may become jammed by twisted straps, giving parents the impression that the straps are tighter than they are. 

A flat strap is more comprehensive than a twisted strap. As a result, the latter applies greater force to a smaller area, increasing the effects of the collision forces.

The chest clip’s primary function is to ensure the correct adjustment of the shoulder straps. Its primary job is not to bind the infant. Place the chest clip beneath the armpit at all times. 

If the chest clip is lower than the armpit, there is more room between the straps. The straps are more likely to come off the child’s shoulder. In an accident, the youngster could be thrown from the car seat. 

The child’s throat or neck could hurt if the chest clip is too high.
