Car seats that transition to booster seats are one of my favorites. This is why I was excited when I was asked to test the Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1.

    Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 Box
    Getting ready to unbox!

When I removed this car seat from the box, I knew it would fit perfectly in my car. It’s a narrow car seat that allowed me to fit three across. Additionally, it was lightweight enough to move to different vehicles easily.

The LATCH system and open-loop belt guides made the installation very easy, but instead of using push button connectors, they’re push button and can be more frustrating.

One of the unique features I found on this car seat was that the harness and headrest adjust together in eight positions and no re-threading is needed. There was no fussing around with stras and clips when it came time to adjust them. Additionally, the car seat has two cup holders attached to the base, not the armrests.

One downfall I found was that the frame isn’t steel-reingorced and there’s no EPS energy-absorbing foam. This isn’t a huge concern since it passes all safety standards.

With the price and all of the unique features, I can safely recommend this car seat. I enjoyed testing it and my child seemed to like it.

    Great Convertible Booster Seat

As a convertible seat, it transitions from a harness booster to a highback booster and finally to a backless booster. Thanks to the Simply Safe Adjust system, the headrest and harness can be repositioned together seamlessly.

This allows your seat to easily and comfortably accommodate your child as they grow. Other comfort features include dual armrests, two removable cup holders, a padded body insert, and harness covers.

Parents will enjoy how lightweight the seat is, making it effortless to change vehicles. The machine-washable inserts, seat pad, and covers are a breeze to clean. Though the graco tranzitions 3 in 1 is sleek and not heavy, it is still very safe. It has been rigorously crash tested and meets or exceeds all US safety standards.

Notice the sheen of the material, removable cupholder areas (with cupholders removed), and armrests

Although, it does not have a steel-reinforced frame or energy-absorbing foam like some of its counterparts. It is simple to obtain a secure install thanks to the LATCH system and open-loop belt guides. The graco tranzitions 3 in 1 harness booster seat meets all safety standards but is missing a few safety upgrades that usually give parents peace of mind.

    Key Points to Remember

    • Converts from harness booster (22-65lbs), to highback booster (30-100lbs), to a backless booster (40-100lbs)
    • Has a five-point harness mode
    • Narrow profile and not bulky
    • Completely machine washable seat pad and covers
    • Includes dual armrests and dual cup holders
    • 5-point harness mode: must weigh 22-65lbs and measure 26.5-49” in height
    • Highback Booster: must weigh 30-100lbs and measure 38-57” in height
    • Backless Booster: must weigh 40-100lbs and measure 40-57” in height

    Booster Safety Concern

The graco tranzitions 3 in 1 harness booster car seat has no age limit for available seat uses. However, the company does note that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children use a built-in harness system until they reach the weight and/or height limit of their forward-facing seat.

Then, if they are under 4’9” they should use a belt-positioning booster. Typically, children transition to a belt-positioning booster when they are around eight years old.

Furthermore, the American Academy of Pediatrics Association recommends that all infants and children should be rear-faced for as long as possible. In other words, until they meet or exceed the car seat’s weight and height limits. Even though the minimum weight limit for the harness booster is 22 pounds, it may not be the safest choice to put a 22-pound child in a booster seat.

    Unique Features

    • Harness and headrest adjust together to eight different positions
    • The crotch strap can be adjusted to two different positions
    • Seven-year expiration date

Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 harness booster vs. Graco Nautilus 65

Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 Review: Best Harness Booster? 1

Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 Review: Best Harness Booster? 2The Graco Nautilus 65 and the graco car seat tranzitions are both 3-in-1 harness boosters. They convert to the same three-seat types and follow the same weight limits. However, the Nautilus 65 is considered an upgraded version of the Tranzitions.

The Nautilus 65 has a few features that the Tranzitions does not. These include a steel-reinforced frame, energy-absorbing foam, and the ability to recline to three different positions. However, these inclusions make the Nautilus 65 wider, heavier, and costlier.

    Similarities

    • Both are a 3-in-1 convertible booster seats with identical weight ranges
    • Both can be installed using either the LATCH system or the vehicle’s seat belt
    • Both have a no-rethread harness connected to the headrest using the Simply Safe Adjust system

    Differences

    • The Nautilus 65 has only one cup holder, while the Tranzitions has two
    • The Nautilus 65 is bulkier and heavier
    • Three recline positions are available with the Nautilus 65 compared to none with the Tranzitions
    • Two features that the Tranzitions doesn’t have while the Nautilus does are a steel-reinforced frame and energy-absorbing foam
    • The Nautilus 65 is more expensive

Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 harness booster vs. Graco Wayz

The Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 harness booster is actually the same seat as the Wayz. The seats just go by two different names. Therefore, they share all of the same features. Even though the seats are identical, there are two differences. These are retailer and color choices.

The Graco Wayz is exclusively produced for and sold by Walmart. It remains the Tranzitions seat, just renamed for Wal-Mart and under different color choices.

If you’re interested in the Wayz, you can view it at Wal-Mart by clicking here.

    Durable and Safe Convertible Seat

Overall, the Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it is an affordable and safe car seat perfect for active families. Though some parents have difficulty installing this seat, issues depend on vehicle type.

If you are looking for a simple seat at a great price that can keep up with your busy lifestyle, then the Tranzitions is just the seat for you.
